Wikeo privacy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 05, 2026 Wikeo is built to help you learn from videos without turning your watch history, notes, screenshots, highlights, transcripts, or library into data for our servers. Wikeo is local-first: the content you save stays on your device. While the app may communicate with our servers for licensing, notifications, updates, security, and related functionality, your library content is not sent to us.

Key points

Your library stays on your device

We don't receive or store your watch history, saved videos, notes, highlights, screenshots, transcripts, tags, collections, search history, or other content in your Wikeo library.

Local-first by design

Your Wikeo library lives on your device, and extension data stays in your browser unless you choose otherwise.

Payments are handled by our provider

Card numbers, billing details, tax information, and fraud checks are handled by our payment provider.

We collect only limited information

We collect only the information needed to provide Wikeo, including licensing, purchases, support, security, notifications, service reliability, and basic website operation.

1. The short version

Your privacy is central to how Wikeo is designed.

We do not receive or store your watch history, saved videos, notes, highlights, screenshots, transcripts, tags, collections, search history, or any other content you create inside your Wikeo library.

Your Wikeo library is stored locally on your device. The browser extension stores its data in your browser unless you move into the Mac app or choose to use a future cloud feature.

To operate Wikeo, we collect a limited amount of information needed for licensing, purchases, notifications, security, abuse prevention, and the reliable operation of our services. This may include your name and email address for purchases and licensing, a randomly generated installation identifier created by the app, basic technical information about your device and app version, and limited server logs.

Payment information such as card numbers, billing addresses, tax information, and fraud checks may be handled by our payment provider rather than by Wikeo directly.

2. What stays on your device

The core data you create in Wikeo is not sent to our servers. This includes:

  • Videos you save
  • Notes you write
  • Highlights you create
  • Screenshots you capture
  • Transcripts you keep
  • Tags
  • Collections
  • Search history within your local library

Because this data remains local, you are responsible for backing up your device or app data if you want an additional copy. If your device is lost, damaged, reset, or its storage becomes corrupted, we may not be able to recover your Wikeo library.

While your library remains on your device, Wikeo may communicate with our servers for licensing, notifications, updates, security, abuse prevention, and other product functionality. These communications do not include your library content.

3. Information we may collect

We collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate Wikeo, provide licenses, improve reliability, answer support requests, and protect our services.

Contact information

Information you provide to us, such as:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Messages
  • Support requests
  • Feedback

Purchase and license information

Information needed to manage your purchase and license, such as:

  • Email address
  • License status
  • Purchase date
  • Refund status
  • Payment provider transaction identifiers

App installation information

When Wikeo is installed, the app generates a random installation identifier used to recognize that installation when communicating with our servers. Along with this identifier, we may receive technical information such as:

  • Operating system
  • Application version
  • Processor architecture
  • Timestamps
  • Technical authentication information used to verify the installation
  • Diagnostic information needed for reliability, security, notifications, licensing, and abuse prevention

This installation identifier is randomly generated and is not based on information about your device or your activity within Wikeo.

Download and update information

When you download or update Wikeo, we may temporarily collect or log information such as:

  • IP address
  • Approximate location derived from the IP address
  • Operating system
  • Application version
  • Processor architecture
  • Timestamps
  • Diagnostic information

This information helps us operate our download infrastructure, prevent abuse, investigate service issues, and improve reliability.

Website and service logs

When you use our website or online services, we may collect standard server information such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser type
  • Device information
  • Pages visited
  • Referring pages
  • Timestamps
  • Security and diagnostic logs

4. Payments and license handling

When you purchase Wikeo, payments may be processed by a third-party payment provider. That provider may collect and process information needed to complete the transaction, including payment details, billing address, tax information, fraud-prevention signals, and payment history.

We do not intentionally store full payment card numbers.

We may receive enough information from the payment provider to:

  • Confirm your purchase
  • Issue and manage your license
  • Provide support
  • Handle refunds
  • Prevent abuse
  • Meet accounting, tax, or legal obligations

5. How we use information

We use the limited information we collect to:

  • Provide, license, maintain, secure, and improve Wikeo
  • Authenticate app installations
  • Deliver notifications and future online features
  • Process purchases, refunds, tax records, and license access
  • Respond to support requests and communicate important product or policy updates
  • Monitor service reliability and diagnose technical issues
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and other security issues
  • Understand aggregate installation and platform usage
  • Comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations

We do not use your Wikeo library or viewing activity for advertising or profiling because we do not receive that information.

6. When we share information

We do not sell your personal information.

We also do not share your Wikeo library because we do not receive it in the first place.

We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate Wikeo, including payment processors, email providers, hosting providers, analytics or diagnostic providers, support platforms, and legal or accounting providers. These providers are expected to use the information only to provide services on our behalf.

We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Respond to lawful requests
  • Protect Wikeo and its users
  • Prevent fraud or abuse
  • Enforce our agreements
  • Protect the safety or rights of others

7. Future cloud features

Wikeo may introduce optional cloud features in the future, such as synchronization, backup, collaboration, or subscription services.

Until you choose to use such a feature, your library remains local-first as described in this policy.

Before introducing any feature that stores or processes your library content on our servers, we will update this Privacy Policy and explain what information is collected, why it is collected, and what choices you have.

8. Data retention

Your local Wikeo library remains on your device until you remove it using Wikeo, your browser, your operating system, or other tools you control.

Purchase, license, support, installation, download, security, and business records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide Wikeo
  • Resolve disputes
  • Prevent abuse
  • Investigate security issues
  • Enforce agreements
  • Meet legal, tax, accounting, or regulatory obligations

If you reinstall Wikeo, a new installation identifier is generated.

9. Your choices

You can:

  • Delete your local Wikeo data using Wikeo, your browser, or your operating system.
  • Contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you, subject to applicable legal and operational requirements.
  • Unsubscribe from non-essential marketing emails if we send them.

We may still send transactional communications that are necessary to provide Wikeo, such as purchase confirmations, license notices, important security notifications, or changes to our terms or policies.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information we handle.

However, no software, device, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's privacy

Wikeo is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to remove it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Wikeo evolves.

If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will take reasonable steps to make the change clear, such as updating the effective date, posting a notice, or notifying users where appropriate.

13. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, would like to exercise your privacy rights, or need support, you can contact us at hello@wikeo.app.
